New GlobalProtect VPN

The Division of Information Technology will be replacing our current VPN, FortiClient, with the GlobalProtect VPN from Palo Network.  GlobalProtect is software that is used to create an encrypted private session that allows you access to sensitive resources safely.

When is the VPN Required?

Using the VPN is only required when you are off-site and are accessing resources that require being on the University network (Jabber, some Banner applications, Remote Desktop, etc.) Services like Microsoft Teams, Instructure Canvas, and FlashLine do not require the use of the VPN. Additionally, library resources can be accessed from home without the use of a VPN through the KSU Proxy.

GlobalProtect has a few requirements.

  1. You must be setup with Microsoft’s Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
  2. You must be connected to a network, wired or wireless
    1. Like any VPN software, GlobalProtect relies on an existing network connection, without a connection it cannot works
