Kent State University, in partnership with Microsoft, offers Microsoft Office for Faculty, Staff and Students for use on their personal computers, tablets and smartphones at no cost through Office 365.

Do I qualify?

Active full and part-time students who are registered for classes qualify for this offer. Once you've qualified, your access will continue while you're enrolled, and for up to 2 years after graduation or leaving the University.

All currently employed classified and unclassified employees qualify for this offer. Upon leaving the University, you must uninstall the software, unless you’re currently enrolled as a student.

Note: for university owned computers, Office 365 is managed through Software Center or Self Service. For additional information please contact your local support administrator.

You may install Office on up to 5 PCs or Macs and Office apps on other mobile devices including Android, iPad®, and Windows tablets. It also includes 1TB of OneDrive storage with online editing of Office documents.


Chromebook can’t install the Windows or Mac desktop versions of Microsoft 365 or Office 2016.

  • The Android versions of Office, Outlook, OneNote, and OneDrive are not currently supported on a Chromebook. 

Open the browser on your Chromebook and go to Sign-in with your Kent State email address and password to access the Office web apps that are available through your browser.

How do I get the software?

To get your free version of Office, please login to with your FlashLine credentials.  Once authenticated, you will be able to download and install Office.

The software is meant for your personally-owned computers. If you’re using a university owned computer, there’s no need to install Office, as it would already be installed.
In addition to the desktop software, you have access to the full functionality of the Office mobile apps. Download Word, Excel and PowerPoint from the app store on your device, sign in with you Kent account in the apps, and that’s it.
