Access and support for statistical and qualitative software, including AMOS, SPSS, JMP and SAS

Note: In this article, a “University-Owned Computer” is any computer or device that is owned by Kent State University that has been issued to an individual Faculty or Staff member. A “Personally-Owned Computer” is any computer or device owned by the user.

SPSS Statistics & SPSS Amos

Note: SPSS Statistics is compatible with both Windows and Mac operating systems, but SPSS Amos is only compatible with Windows.

Faculty/Staff

Faculty who wish to install SPSS Statistics or SPSS Amos on their personally owned computers may purchase an educational license through https://kent.onthehub.com. Note that faculty and staff wishing to purchase Amos this way are only able to purchase it in a bundle with SPSS Statistics.

SPSS Statistics Base GradPack

Offers beginners the most frequently used procedures for statistical analysis, and includes IBM® SPSS® Statistics Base, which provides the foundation for many types of analyses.

Enables intermediate students to use more advanced analytical algorithms and techniques.

SPSS Statistics Premium GradPack

Offers advanced students the full complement of statistical capabilities.

SAS

Kent State University maintains a university-wide unlimited seat license for SAS. All currently-employed Faculty and Staff, as well as currently-enrolled Students are eligible.

We currently distribute SAS 9.4 software and licenses. SAS licenses must be renewed yearly.

Please note that this product is licensed for academic research, teaching, and learning purposes only. It is not licensed for institutional or administrative use by the university.

While there is no version of SAS for Mac OS X, users can leverage virtualization technology to run Windows on their Mac, and then use SAS on the virtual instance of Windows. This requires two additional components:

  1. Virtualization software like VMWare Fusion (available to students at no charge through OnTheHub)

  2. A copy and license of Windows.

The Tech Help Service and Repair Center can typically assist users in purchasing a Windows license, installing visualization software, and creating the Windows virtual machine.

SAS is installed on IT computer lab machines.

Alternatively, you can bring your computer to the Tech Desk locations in the Tri-Towers Rotunda or the College of Business to have SAS installed.

NVivo

Kent State University maintains a university-wide, limited seat license for NVivo 12 for Windows and NVivo 12 for Mac. All currently-employed Faculty and Staff, as well as currently-enrolled Students are eligible.

Please note that this product is licensed for academic research, teaching, and learning purposes only. It is not licensed for institutional or administrative use by the university.

There are a limited number of licenses available for NVivo.

Visit https://software.kent.edu to start the mandatory fully-functional 14-day trial for Nvivo. After the 14-day trial you may return to https://software.kent.edu and receive a license key.

Stata

University-Owned or Personally-Owned Computers

Kent State University does not currently maintain any site-wide licenses for Stata. However, Faculty, Staff, or currently enrolled Students can purchase Stata at a reduced rate through the Stata Campus GradPlan. Orders are placed directly through the Stata web site, and once the order is processed, the Stata software can be downloaded immediately.

There are four major versions of Stata to choose from: Small Stata, Stata/IC, Stata/SE, and Stata/MP. You can find information about the differences in these versions at Stata’s website. Stata is compatible with Windows and Mac operating systems.

JMP

Kent State University maintains a university-wide site license for JMP. All currently-employed Faculty and Staff, as well as currently-enrolled Students are eligible. JMP is compatible with both Windows and Mac operating systems.

We currently distribute JMP 11, 12,13, and 14 software and licenses. JMP licenses must be renewed yearly. Please note that Mac OS X 10.12 and newer requires JMP 13 or 14.
